I am asking for your help in a very puzzling case that has shaken our community to the core.
My name is Inspector William Wagner, and I represent the local police.
On September 29th, Eugene Kaufman, owner of Firetire Inc., was tragically murdered in his hotel room. Time of death is estimated between 10:00 and 10:15 p.m. The victim was found lying on the floor – stabbed from behind.
The case revolves around three DNA samples: Eugene’s own, one from Natalie Stewart – a connection we still don’t understand – and a contaminated DNA sample suggesting a family member’s involvement.
Originally, Lisa Bhavin-Kaufman, Eugene’s daughter, was the main suspect but was released due to lack of evidence.
But this case is confusing. Many people spent time with Eugene that day – all with their own motives and secrets.
Kaufman had gathered his loved ones and closest employees to celebrate his 65th birthday. It was supposed to be a joyful occasion but turned into a tragedy.

Close "The argument started during lunch, as always. Eugene never supported Liza marrying James. Since then, he made her life difficult. He told her there was no place for James at the table.
I wasn't interested in the so-called celebrations either. As soon as the formal part ended, I left and headed home. Unfortunately, the police stopped me on the way."

Close "I was still having dinner and talking with Eugene when I saw an ambulance arrive on the premises. They took someone away."

Close "This has all been a nightmare. First, my father is murdered and then I’m accused of killing him. Yes, we had our differences, but I would never do such a thing. At least the police eventually believed in my innocence."

During lunch, I was just sipping my spritzer when Liza started yelling. She lunged at Eugene, screaming she hated him and didn’t want to be his daughter anymore. What a dramatic mess.
At the show cooking, I was a little tipsy, but I saw Kira helping Natalie after she cut her hand."

Close "At the archery contest, I watched Kevin Chang. He was present but kept fiddling with his phone, desperately trying to access an email account – seemed like he’d forgotten the password.
In the orchard, Kira gave Eugene the notebook he’d been searching for all day. As she handed it to him, she pointed at Kevin. I wonder what that meant?"

Close "During the donkey trek, I saw Kevin holding a small red notebook until Kira snatched it out of his hands. Kevin looked pretty shocked.
After lunch, I noticed Eleonore leaving the party in a hurry – like she was running from something or someone.
Later that evening at the bar, I was chatting with Archie when Sonya suddenly started crying next to us. She was completely drunk. It took us 30 minutes to convince her it was bedtime and walk her to her room.

Close "I was busy all day coordinating the event. During the show cooking, I even had to give first aid. Luckily, I had just taken a first aid course! Natalie cut her hand badly. It didn’t look good – there was blood everywhere."

Close "I found it amusing that Eleonore was with Archie. You know, they used to be a couple before Eugene snatched Eleonore away. I don’t think Archie ever truly got over it."

Close "At breakfast, Eugene kept asking if anyone had seen his red notebook. He was really nervous.
Later, when everyone was drinking champagne in the orchard, Kira seemed agitated about something. I couldn’t tell what.
That evening I was at the bar with Mason. Just before 8 p.m., I was checking the latest game scores. Eugene had just wished everyone a good night and left for his room, when I saw that he had left his red notebook at the bar. I planned to give it back the next day and pocketed it. He should’ve been more careful with something so important.
Then Mason asked me to help him take Sonya to her room. She was very drunk, and it took us quite a while."

Close "In the morning, I overheard Clara complaining to Eleonore. She said she didn’t understand why Kira earned more than her even though Kira had only been with the company a short time.
Later in the orchard, I saw Eugene personally hand Viktoria Vasic a glass of champagne – which she angrily poured into the bushes. Sometimes I wonder how Eleonore can still be married to Eugene, if you know what I mean.
And then there was that lunch incident... Let’s just say I spent the rest of the night in the hospital."

Close "What do I remember from that day? Hmm, let me think.
At breakfast, I noticed something odd. Kevin Chang dropped a crumpled napkin on the floor. When I picked it up to return it to the table, I saw something scribbled on it.
Then there was the show cooking. By the way, the sushi was delicious – the fish practically melted in your mouth. I don’t understand how Viktoria could reject it. She only ate a bit of rice.
Oh yes! One more thing. While enjoying my champagne in the orchard, I heard someone mutter, “I’m going to kill that pig.” Sonya was slurring, but I’m pretty sure she meant Eugene. It took a while to calm her down."

Close "In the morning, Mr. Kaufman came by to make sure everything was prepared to his satisfaction.
Later that evening, during my rounds through the premises, I noticed the cleaning staff had carelessly taken out the trash. I found a small piece of paper on the floor that seemed torn from a notebook. I still have it."

Close "As on the previous days, I brought Mr. Kaufman his tea at 10:15 p.m. He didn’t answer, so I opened the door to place the tray on the table. That’s when I found him dead. There was so much blood. I ran immediately to get help."

At first, I wanted to send her away, but then she told me what had happened and that she was pregnant. Some men can be truly awful.
